Green Eggs and Ham

Today, I decided to make green eggs and ham for breakfast. Snugglepuppy has really been getting into the Dr. Seuss books and that book and The Cat in the Hat are his favorites. He pretty much became the character from the book and I, Sam I Am, of course :) He refused the first few times I asked him to try it, but eventually when I held a spoonful right up to his mouth, he agreed to take just one bite. Lo and behold, he liked it! He proceeded to eat the rest of his bowlful.

Just the eggs and green food coloring.
After the eggs started to cook, I added some butter, milk, cheese and the ham chunks.

Here is the final product. Not too bad and very tasty!

Also, I have made up a bag for each of the most popular Dr. Seuss books with different activities and the accompanying book inside. See my previous post to see what the bags look like.

What's your favorite Dr. Seuss book and what activities do you do with it?

Chronicles of Summertime: Day 27

Day 27:
Today was a kind of relaxing day to try and recover from all the family fun we've been having. We stayed home all day and it stormed on and off anyway. One thing I did was find an old story reader when I was sorting through some things in my closet. I let Snugglepuppy play with it and as it turns out, the 2 books I have for it are some of his favorites, Spongebob and Dora. He had fun with that, especially Dora because it is a sing-a-long and comes with a microphone. He liked hearing his own voice on the speaker.

Also, he came with me to the basement when I did laundry and we played some basketball and throwing ball pit balls at each other. I also played a little Dance Dance Revolution on the Wii. Snugglepuppy played some on the iPad. He loves his PBS Kids app where he can watch clips from some of their shows. While we have never watched SuperWHY on TV, he really loves that one. I was watching him today and they were saying the alphabet and then stopping and asking what letter comes next. Snugglepuppy did very well answering those! He asks for that show by name now, so I guess I will start recording it on the DVR.

Before bed, I got out one of my Dr. Seuss kits, The Cat in the Hat. It was Snugglepuppy's first time reading it. He had seen the plush Cat in the Hat and picked it up to play with today, so I thought it would be a good idea to read it. Most of the things in the bag are from Target dollar section. After we read the book, I had him try to write the word cat on the dry erase board. He did ok for the first time.

After that, time for bed. I hope he can sleep through any more storms we might have tonight.

Chronicles of Summertime: Day 13

Day 13:
I'm not gonna lie, we didn't do much today, so this should be a quick post. We went grocery shopping and Snugglepuppy helped out a lot by putting the items on the counter and helping me bag things. We read a little (Dr. Seuss's ABC, Oh, David, and Mouse Paint and watched Chicka Chicka Boom Boom on Youtube) and made a new lid for baby Ladybug for The Lid Game, a project we did a while back. It was a pretty lazy day overall!

Dollar Finds

Here are just a few dollar items I found this weekend. They are all from Target except the sorting tray which I got at Dollar Tree. There were so many more things I wanted to get from Target (mostly Seuss stuff), but I decided to put most of it back when I found a rug with streets on it for my son's room. I have been looking for one that he can drive his cars around on.

Anyway, The Lorax bag is an addition to my collection of Seuss bags I bought last year. The idea is to put in the book that goes along with each bag and some other various items that also relate to the book such as stickers, word cards, etc. Then there are the Seuss number flash cards. I already have the shapes and colors cards that I divided among the other bags.

Then just some dry erase markers and dry erase cards to practice writing the alphabet.

Hope you get some ideas for your room!

Storytime Sunday: Dr. Seuss's ABC

Today's book is one of my favorites, Dr. Seuss's ABC. There are so many activities you can do with this book. One of my favorite things about Dr. Seuss other than the rhyming of course, is his made-up characters. The kids really get a kick out of these creatures and the silly things they do!

So, we decided to do a writing activity with this book. We used this as our sample. The kids were to write as much of this as they can (choosing their own letter) and then draw a picture of something that begins with that letter.

Here is one of the children's work:

And here is another. She didn't get around to drawing a picture, but she wrote more of the text.

We made letters with gear blocks as you can see here. We also have the Dr. Seuss's ABC computer game on our computer, so it was a great extension of the book about which we had read and written.
